SRI KSHETRA SHRAVANABELAGOLA - AN INTRODUCTION Around 2300 years ago emperor Chandragupta Maurya and the renowned Jain ascetic the last Shruthakevali Sramanacharya Badhrabahu Muni Maharaj along with thousands of Jaina monks came down to Sri Kshetra Shravanabelagola. Emperor Chandragupta Maurya was intiated into the Digambar Jain ascetic order by Badhrabahu Muniraj. Both Acharya Badrabahu Muniraj and emperor Chandragupta Maurya (who was renamed as Acharya Prabhachandra Muniraj after initiation) attained samadhi on the Chadragiri hillock. From then on Shravanabelagola went on to become a treasure trove of Jaina religion, culture, art, architecture, sculpture, etc. The installation of the world famous 57 feet high monolithic idol of Bhagwan Bahubali in 981 A.D. by Chamundaraya as per his mothers wish on the Vindhyagiri hillock stands as a testimony to his devotion to her. The installation and 1st Mahamasthakabhishekha of Bhagwan Bahubali was held on 13th March 981 A.D. under the holy presence of Acharya Sri Nemichandra Siddantha Chakravarthi. Ever since Mahamasthakabhishekha has been performed once in 12 years as per the Digambar Jaina traditions.
We are fortunate enough to perform and witness the first mahamasthakabhishekha of the new millennium. As usual hundreds of thousands of people are benefited by this mega event. Down the line for 1025 years this great event has been performed once in 12 years and the coming Mahamasthakabhishekha will begin from 8th February 2006 (Veer Nirvan Samvat 2532 Parthiva Nama Samvatsara Magha Shuklapaksha).
The Mahamasthakabhishekha pooja mahotsav will be held under the holy presence of His Holiness Acharya Sri 108 Vardhaman Sagarji Muni Maharaj, descendant of Charitra Chakravarthi Sri Shanthisagarji Muni Maharaj's ascetic order. Mahamasthakabhishekha Upbeat | Top | Heritage of Shravanabelagola | Home The mahotsav will be held under the holy guidance of Rashtrasanth His Holiness Acharya Sri 108 Vidyanandji Muni Maharaj.

Devotees, shravakas, shravikas and the general public can perform Mahamasthakabhishikha to Bhagwan Sri Bahubali. They can send in their applications and reserve the Kalashas in advance.
