Shravanabelagola (Karnataka), June 1: The first head anointing (Mahamasthakabhishekha) ceremony of this century of Bhagawan Sri Bahubali of Shravanabelagola will be celebrated in the month of February 2006 as stated by Paramapujya Jagadguru Karmayogi Swastiri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji. This historical event bears great testimony since the time of installation of the statue by Chavundaraya the commander in chief of Gangas of Talakadu on March 13, 981 A.D. This 57 feet monolithic statue is situated atop the Vindhyagiri hill. It is the ritual of Mahamasthakabhishekha is being conducted once in every 12 years from time immemorial. The last  mahamasthakabhishekha was held in 1993. This event attracts the devotees and tourists in large number from different parts of the world.

      The arrangements are in full swing to make the event successful. The Rashtriya Mahamasthakabhishekha Mahotsav Samithi (RMMS)  has been formed under the able chief patronage of Dr.D.Veerendra Heggade, Dharmasthala.

Sri Sahu Ramesh Chand Jain of all India Digambara Jaina Tirthakshetra Committee , New Delhi is the honorary chairman. A.R.Nirmal Kumar of Bangalore (Executive Chairman); Aravind Doshi, Mumbai (Chief Secretary); Sri Ashok Badjaty, Indore of national committee is the vice chairman. D.A.Patil, Kolhapur and S.Jetendra Kumar, Bangalore are also in the committee.

Late Prime minister Smt Indira Gandhi participated in the celebration held in 1981. Furthermore Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma the President and P.V.Narasimha Rao also participated in the event in 1993. It is enterprising to remember that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first prime minister of India had expressed admiration for the serene beauty of lord Gommateshwara. He was dumb founder and looked at this magnificent statue.  

     The committee has envisaged many measures to be taken as part of preparation for the celebration of mahamasthakabhishekha these include providing of basic facilities for the pilgrims and incumbents at the place. The Swamiji has strongly urged for the completion of Hassan-Bangalore Railway project initiated by former Prime Minister Sri H.D.Devegowda. Attempts have been made to Beautify the place and thus providing an aesthetic background to the town.

     The message of ahimsa for the welfare of mankind is spread through out the country on the occasion. GOWDA ASSURES FULL SUPPORT FOR MAHAMASTHAKABHISHEKHA

Hassan (Karnataka), July 1: With the former Prime Minister and Hassan MP, H.D. Deve Gowda, assuring of all possible help from the Central and State Governments, the exercise of holding the first Mahamastakabhisheka of the 21st century, at Shravanabelagola in February 2006, has gained momentum. A meeting of the district officials was convened on under the president ship of Sri Gowda, to discuss a 20-point proposal submitted by Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Shravanabelagola for the overall development of the Jain pilgrimage centre in view of the Mahamastakabhisheka.

Mr. Gowda said that he would try his best to bring in all help from all quarters to make the Mahamastakabhisheka a memorable event. The minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D.Revanna, the Shravanabelagola MLA, C.S. Putte Gowda, the Arkalgud MLA, A.T. Ramaswamy, ex member of the parliament Sri Javare Gowda, ex minister Sri Veerakumar Patil, Hassan Zilla Panchayat president, G.T. Indira and other dignitaries attended the meeting.

     Terming the Mahamastakabhisheka as a trans-national cultural event, Mr. Gowda said that it was a challenge to organise an event, which was massive in nature and would be attended by people across the world. He called upon the people's representatives to work for the success of the event. He said that, he would appeal to the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, to extend all possible help. On the 20-point proposal presented by the Swamiji, he asked the district administration to discuss the proposal in detail and approach the State Government with specific demands.

     In his plea to the elected representatives and the officials, Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji said that he did not anticipate either ostentation or grandeur but only expected the basic amenities for the pilgrims who would visit Shravanabelagola on the occasion, especially proper drinking water supply and place to stay. Recalling the help extended by the previous Governments in holding Mahamastakabhisheka successfully, he said that he would expect similar cooperation from both the district administration and the State Government. The Swamiji appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, M. Maheshwara Rao, and the District in-charge Minister, H.D Revanna, to take up the responsibility of conducting the event successfully.

     Jains from all over Karnataka had participated in the meeting and gave useful suggestions towards making the event a grand success. ENCHANTING CELEBRATION OF MAHAMASTHAKABHISHEKHA

Shravanabelagola (Karnataka), August 25: The historic celebration of the head anointing ceremony of lord Gommateshwara at Shravanabelagola has taken its pace this time with adequate preparations and is drawing the attention of the pilgrims at large. The pooja will be celebrated for all ten days to facilitate the devotees to observe the rituals pouring sacred water collected in Kalashas. Jagadguru Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of the Shravanabelagola Jain Muth briefened and blessed the endeavour. The celebration will be telecasted live all over the globe. The programmes relating to the heritage of Jainism will be held in propagating the message of Jinas. He mentioned that all the days of pooja celebration will be given equal attention and priority. He opined that Jainism has immensely contributed for the development of Indian culture. The Jain religion, its culture and rich literary treasure will be made known to the public and the pilgrims on the occasion. The preachings of 24 Tirthankaras will be taught to the present generation of people propagating about the posterity. He called upon youngsters to take an active part in this historical event with great joy and commitment. Adequate facilities will be provided to the pilgrims and visitors fulfilling their basic needs. Sri Charukeerthiji is spear heading the celebrations with his suitable guidance and suggestions. The exhibits of the ancient Jaina culture, literature and art will be displayed and thus fastening the core of the religion. 

     The pooja will be celebrated by pouring holy water on the lord. The first and second days pooja includes anointing the lord with 108 and 216 Kalashas (pots) respectively. The third day pooja includes the use of 504 and from fourth to 10th 1008 Kalashas along with panchamruta abhishekha.

MAHAMASTHAKABHISHEKHA DRAWS THE ATTENTION OF THE GLOBE

Shravanabelagola, August 25: Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala inaugurated the first meeting of the Mahamasthakabhishekha of the national committee and opined that this religious event at Shravanabelagola has drawn the attention of the world towards India and compared it to that of Olympic games taking place in Athens (Greece). He felt that Bahubali's sacrifice and meditation have modified the lives of individuals towards spirituality and considered that it has lit the light for world peace. LIFETIMES FORTUNE OF THE CENTURY

Shravanabelagola, August 25: The esteemed members of the Mahamasthakabhishekha National Committee felt that it is a lifetime fortune and achievement to participate in the services to lord Bahubali and propagating his message to mankind. This celebration is not confined to Karnataka and India but is an international event. They called upon for the whole time participation actively and make the celebration a grand success with unity and amity. More than 10,000 volunteers of Veerasevadala will take part in this event. National Youth Conference, National Women Conference exhibition of Jaina literature in Kannada, Jaina Munis conference will held on the ocasion. Besides the establishment of Internation Jain study centre, Publication of Bahubali literature in Indian languages. CHANT 'JAI GOMMATESHA'

Shravanabelagola, August 25: The Mahamasthakabhishekha National Committee has given a clarion call to pronounce the slogan Jai Gommatesha the symbol of sacrifice and non violence on hearing any telephonic or telegraphic call from their neighbours. It is opined that this will help in propagating the message of Bhagawan Sri Bahubali to linger in the hearts and minds of the people. -Jain Heritage Centres News Service

MEETING BEGINS WITH BAHUBALI'S HYMN

Shravanabelagola, August 25: The first meeting of Mahamasthakabhishekha National Committee  started with renouncing the line 'Visatta Kandatta Dalanuyaram' Gommata Hymn written by Nemichandracharya on Bhagawan Sri Bahubali when the first Masthakabhishekha celebration was held in A.D. (981). It enthralled the hundreds of members assembled on the occasion. The main priest Sri V.Shanthiraja Shastry and Sri M.G.Ratnarajayya conducted the religious proceedings. -Jain Heritage Centres News Service   

CENTRAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS APPEALED FOR MASTHAKABHISHEKHA SUCCESS

Shravanabelagola, August 25: Sri A.R.Nirmal Kumar the executive president of the Sri Bahubali Swami Mahamasthakabhishekha Committee informed that central and state governments are requested to extend the cooperation and assistance for the overall and successful celebration of Mahamasthakabhishekha the first of its event of this century. He also informed that Acharya Sri Vidyananda Maharaj, New Delhi, has been well appraised of the preparations for the celebration. MAHAMASTHAKABHISHEKHA AS NADAHABBA

Shravanabelagola, August 25: His Holiness Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of Shravanabelagola declared that Mahamasthakabhishekha is conducted in full swing and spirit of 'Nadahabba' (State Festival). Cultural and social welfare programmes will be held parallely with the celebrations. Emphasis will be laid on adopting human values in day to day life. The publications pertaining to the life and message of Bhagawan Sri Bahubali will be undertaken and seminars and symposia are held in universities and thus creating awareness amongst the youngsters. In addition state and national conferences will be held on Prakrit, Sanskrit and Kannada languages. Shravanabelagola, August 25: The first meeting of Mahamasthakabhishekha National Committee has constituted various committees for the smooth celebrations of the Mahamasthakabhishekha event, they include: Mahamasthakabhishekha Pooja Committee (Convener: Sri B.H.Mahabalaiah , Bellur), Mahamasthakabhishekha Accommodation Committee (President: Sri Anil Sethi, Bangalore; Convener: Sri S.Suresh Kumar, Mysore), Volunteers Committee (President: D.A.Patil, Kolhapur), Kalasha Distribution committee (Convener: Sri D.R.Shah, Indi), People Welfare Committee (President: Sri H.N.Rajendrakumar, Bangalore; Convener: Sri S.A.Sudarshan), Panchakalyana Committee (Convener: Sri G.C.Ajitkumar, Shravanabelagola).
