BOOK EXHIBITION INAUGURATED
Shravanabelagola, Oct 22:
Sri H.B.Ramesh, president of the Hassan district Kannada Sahitya Parishath
inaugurated the Book exhibition that was organised at Shravanabelagola on
the occasion of the All Kannada Jain literary conference.
CULTURAL PROGRAMMES INAUGURATED
Shravanabelagola, Oct 22:
Sri H.B.Madanagowda former president of the Hassan district Kannada Sahitya
Parishad inaugurated the cultural programmes at the All Kannada Jain lierary
conference. The programmes presented by Sri Chandana Balaga of Hassan impressed
the delegates. Smt. Shyla Abhinandankumar who directed the presentation was
felicitated on the occasion.
ADIPURANA IN SILVER PALANQUIN
Shravanabelagola, October 22:
The historic Adipurana one of the masterpiece works of Pampa the renowned Jaina
poet during the 9th and 10th century, was taken in a procession in a silver
palanquin from the Matada Basadi (the adobe of Goddess Kushmandini and Lord
Chandranatha) to the Boppana stage of the Chavundaraya mantapa, the venue of the
All Kannada Jain Literary Conference. Prof.G.Venkatasubbiah, who inagurated the
conference place the altar containing Adipurana inside the palanquin as a
respect to the Jina Shastra.
SOUVENIR OF JAIN LITERARY
CONFERENCE RELEASED
Shravanabelagola, October 22: 'Kshita Sampoojya' the souvenir published
on the occasion of the Jain literary conference was released Sri S.Jitendra
Kumar the president of the Karnataka Jain Association. On the occasion the
following Jain books in Kannada were also released: Adunika Kannada Jaina
Lekakaru (Ed: Dr.S.P.Patil, Published by the Jain periodical in Kannada
Pragati Jina Vijaya); Kiriyarigagi Jaina Chitra Kathegalu (four), Samyaktva
(By Dr.G.B.Pandit) and Ashta Dravya Poojeya Prasidda Kathegalu (Translated by
Sri R.N.Koti, Indi), all the above three works are the publications of Sumeru
Prakashana.

ASSURES SUPPORT FOR KANNADA JAINA LITERARY MEETS
Shravanabelagola (Karnataka), October 23: His Holiness
Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji, the pontiff of the
Shravanabelagola Jain Mutt opined that the Jaina writers and
poets has enriched Kannada literature and called upon the Jaina
scholars to work towards continuing the trend. He felt that the
Kannada Jaina Literary meets would provide a platform to both
the old and young Jaina writers. He was speaking in his address
to the gathering during the interactive session organised at
Shravanabelagola as part of the All Kannada Jaina Literary
Conference. He promised all kinds of support to the annual
Jaina literary meets that would be conducted in different parts
of Karnataka.
KAMALA HAMPANA
URGES TO NAME WOMEN UNIVERSITY WITH ATTIMABBE'S NAME
Shravanabelagola (Karnataka), October 23: Dr.Mrs.Kamala
Hampana urged the government of Karnataka to name the Women
University established at Bijapur as "Attimabbe Women Uinversity".
She called upon the Jain scholars and the samaj to pose a united
voice in this direction. She was speaking during her
presidential address of the interactive session (Samvada Goshti)
during the All Karnataka Jain Kannada Sahitya Conference. She
gave a patient hearing to the questions posed by the audience
and her replies were well appreciated.
The president of
the conference Dr.Ham.Pa.Nagarajaiah expressed his opinions
during the interaction. Due to paucity of time the number of
questions were restricted to around twenty. An attractive
compeering by Sri S.N.Ashok Kumar, editor of Gommatavani
Jain periodical added a flavour to the proceedings.
In his address to
the audience Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji opined that
"Such interactive sessions during the conferences help the
writers to share their knowledge and experience".
MERITORIOUS
LITERARY WORKS UNITES PEOPLE
Shravanabelagola (Karnataka), October 23: "Languages divide people, but
literary works unite people", opined Prof.Chandrashekar Kambara,
former Vice Chancellor of the Kannada University, Hampi. He was
speaking on the occasion of the valedictory function of the All
Karnataka Jain Kannada Sahitya Conference. Speaking on the
occasion Prof.N.S.Lakshminarayana Bhatt recalled the
contribution of Jain poets towards the enrichment of Kannada
language and called upon the people to preserve the same.
Well known writer
on Jainism Dr.Shanthinatha Dibbada was the chief guest of the
speaking. In his address to the gathering he opined that the
Jaina works act as a beacon light to the people to proceed in
the right path of dharma. Dr.Balasaheb Lokapure of Bagalkot
spoke on the works of Dr.Ham.Pa.Nagarajaiah the president of the
conference. He presented a birds eye view of his works and felt
that Dr.Ham.Pa.Na. was an institution in himself.
In his concluding
address at the conference Dr.Ham.Pa.Na. spoke in detail about
the association and contribution of Jains, Jaina writers and
Jaina poets to the Kannada language. He felt that the Jains
rightly deserve the credit of placing Kannada in an elevated
position linguistically.
In his address to
the delegated Swasti Sri Charukeerthiji Bhattarakha Swamiji the
pontiff of the Jain Mutt opined that very little has been done
to bring Prakrit, Sanskrit and other language works to Kannada
and called upon the Jaina scholars in this direction. The
president of the conference was felicitated in an attractive
function.
KANNADA CONFERENCE CALLS FOR A
COMPILED EDITION OF JAINA INSCRIPTIONS
Shravanabelagola, Oct 23:
The delegates of the All Kannada Jaina Literary Conference in a resolution has
called upon the Government of Karnataka to publish a compiled edition of the
Jaina inscriptions in Kannada. The conference passed a set of ten resolutions to
be pursued. The resolutions adopted during the conference are as follows:
1. To support the Digambar Jain
Mutt, Shravanabelagola in its project of publishing the Dhavala works in
Kannada.
2. To publish a Kannada dictionary
of Jaina terms.
3. To conduct the All Kannada
Jaina convention at least once in two years.
4. To translate and publish the
Jain pooja works in Kannada.
5. To give financial aid to the
publication of Jain literary works and Phd's.
6. To thank the Government of
Karnataka for releasing Rs. 25 lakhs to the Kuvempu University, Hampi towards
the publication of Jain literary works.
7. To thank His Holiness Swasti
Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji for establishing the Chavundaraya Award
with a corpus fund of Rs. 2 Lakhs at the Kannada Sahitya Parishath.
8. To thank His Holiness Swasti
Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji for organising the All Kannada Jaina
Literary Conference at Shravanabelagola.
9. To thanks the chief minister of
Karnataka Sri N.Dharamsingh, Ex prime minister of India and the member of
parliament from Hassan Sri H.D.Devegowda and minister Sri H.D.Revanna for
striving hard towards the success of the Mahamasthakabhisheka.
10. To request the Government of
Karnataka to publish a compiled edition of the Jaina inscriptions in Kannada.
Sri S.N.Ashok Kumar editor of
Gommatavani Jain periodical presented the proposals and the proposals were
unanimously adopted by the delegates.
PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR ALL
INDIA JAIN VIDWAT SAMMELAN
Shravanabelagola, Nov 1:
Preperations are under way for the All India Jain Vidwat Sammelan to be held at
Shravanabelagola from Dec. 29th 2005 to 1st Jan 2006. Sri Phoolchand Premi of
Varanasi (coordinator of the sammelan), Sri V.Vrishabdas Shastri of
Shravanabelagola and Dr.Anekant Jain of Delhi (Co-coordinators of the sammelan)
have informed in a press release. They have informed that renowned Jain scholars
from all over India would be invited for the conference to present their papers.
At the conference
deliberations would be held on the following topics: Jainism, Antiquity of
Shramana Sanskriti, Contribution of South Indian to Shramana Sanskriti, topics
related to Lord Bahubali and other topics.
MAHAMASTHAKABHISHEKA LOGO
RELEASED
Shravanabelagola, Nov 1:
Swasti Sri Charukeerthi
Bhattarakha Swamiji the pontiff of the Shravanabelagola Jain Mutt released the
logo of the Mahamasthakabhisheka 2006. Speaking on the occasion and explaining
the logo he said that "a grand Mahamasthakabhisheka WAS held
on 30th March 1910. It will interesting to note that on that occasion an aerial
post was tried by one Mr.G.F.Edwards who sent a message regarding the puja by a
homing pigeon which was received by the Madras Mail Office within three hours
and forty minutes details of which were published in the Jaina Gazettee Vol VI
No. 6. As a memory of this he said the present logo of the
Mahamasthakabhisheka has a pigeon accompanying it". The logo was released as a
part of the 100 days count down of the event.
