The
Kannada, Marathi and Tamil inscriptions on either side of the image
immediately below those of chamundaraya state that the enclusure
around Gommata was caused to be made by Ganga-raja, the general of
Vishnuvardhana Hoysala. The cloisters in this enclosure enshrine a
large number of beautiful images of the Tirthankaras, yakshi
Kushmandini and Bahubali or Gommata. Most of them are of high class
Hoysala art. Many of these images bear a votive inscriptions on
their pedestals and there are name boards fixed over these images.
